Books by Kevin Whipps
Imagine getting a blind DM from someone on LinkedIn saying that not only did they like your work, but they thought you should write a book. Then, after ignoring that person for a bit, they kept pushing until finally you decided to hear them out, even though you were highly skeptical. And then pretend that you signed the contract, even though you weren’t sure that the thing actually existed, and when the check came to your house — and cleared — you were so shocked that you figured you should probably just write that book.
I’m not saying that’s exactly what happened, but it’s pretty close.
How to Restore Your Chevy Truck: 1973-1987
Growing up, my mom had an early-1980s Suburban named, "Martha." The windshield wipers would randomly turn on, and I have fond memories of getting that thing stuck in the snow, so I have this connection to the trucks that feels personal. I've owned three of them myself, so when I was approached to write a book about these trucks, I jumped on it.
If you're restoring a 1973-1987 Chevy or GMC truck, this is your starting point. There's a ton of good stuff in there to dive into.
How To Restore Your Chevy Truck: 1967-1972
I love these trucks. I've owned just one — a 1969 long bed with faded red paint — but I have plans to own another someday. In the meantime, I wrote this book, which is available now. It's packed with all sorts of historical details, plus information on how to restore your truck from top to bottom. And it's got one of my favorite covers, too.
How to Install Air Ride Suspension Systems
In 2004, maybe 2005, I wrote a forum post about hydraulics — everything you needed to know to install them on your ride. And just a year or two later, I'd install my first set of airbags, and it was all downhill from there.
I'm now fully converted to air ride suspensions, and when I pitched this book to my editor, he was all in. I like this book a lot, and whether you're a seasoned air suspension vet or new to the scene, there's some good stuff in here.
OBS Chevy Trucks 1988-1998: How to Build & Modify
One of the favorite trucks I’ve ever owned was my 1995 Chevy standard cab short bed. I loved that thing, so much so that I’d try to chase that dream again with a 1998 Tahoe and 1997 Centurion. This book is my dedication to the bodystyle and my near obsessive love of those trucks.
